Buying a new home can be stressful if you don't know what to look for. To give you a hand, we want to share the 5 most important things to check when viewing a home!
  • Foundation: Is the home structurally sound? This is easy to see on a brick home, but is a bit more difficult on a framed house. Look for cracks along the exterior and around the windows and make sure the floor is level and not spongy.

  • Heating and cooling system: How old is it? Sometimes, you can see the entire system outside; other times, it will be a split system located in two different areas. If you work with me, I'll have a property disclosure to let you know how old it is.

  • Roof: This one can be tricky, but the home inspector can help when that time comes. When viewing a roof, keep an eye out for curling shingles and mold.

  • Drainage: Where does the water go when it rains? Look at the slope of the lot and the gutter system, making sure water is running back to the foundation and under the house. Moisture can attract termites and cause mold, which are always troublesome.

  • Neighborhood: Do your neighbors take pride in their homes? You don't want to move into a home with messy neighbors, as it will negatively affect your home values down the road.
